The David H. Samson Canadian Scholarship is awarded by the AIST Foundation as part of the Steel Intern Scholarship program. Up to 50 one-year scholarships of US$7,500 are awarded to recognize students pursuing careers in the steel or iron industry. The scholarship is preceded by a required paid summer internship at a North American steel company. Recipients must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA and receive satisfactory performance reviews from the internship company. Applications are accepted on an annual cycle from August 1 to October 5.
Open to citizens of USMCA countries (USA, Canada, Mexico) enrolled full-time in a four-year undergraduate or graduate program in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, data science, environmental/sustainability science, or safety/industrial safety at an accredited North American university. Applicants must demonstrate commitment to the steel industry and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Applicants must commit to completing a paid summer internship at a North American steel-producing or steel-related company during the summer preceding the scholarship year. Upon selection, AIST will assist in internship placement, though applicants may self-place with pre-approval. Application documents (resume, essay, recommendation letters, and transcript) must be submitted in English in PDF format through the AIST Foundation portal by the deadline. Applicants must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and be available to relocate for the internship.
