About

Optimist International offers three scholarship contests in Canada: the Essay Contest (twelve $2,500 awards for Canadian students), the Oratorical Contest (World Championship scholarships of $5,000–$15,000), and the Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing ($2,500 per district).

Eligibility

Open to contestants under age 19 as of October 1 of the current contest year who have not yet completed secondary school. Must participate through a local Optimist Club.

Requirements

Contact your local Optimist Club to enter. Essay Contest: submit a 700–800 word essay on the annual topic. Club submissions due February 28, 2026; district finals submissions to Optimist International by April 15, 2026.
