About

Optimist International offers three scholarship contests in Canada: the Essay Contest (twelve $2,500 awards for Canadian students), the Oratorical Contest (World Championship scholarships of $5,000–$15,000), and the Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing ($2,500 per district). 2026-2027 Essay Contest Topic: 'Finding My Voice in a World Full of Noise'

Eligibility

Open to contestants under age 19 as of October 1 of the current contest year who have not yet completed secondary school. Must participate through a local Optimist Club.

Requirements

Contact your local Optimist Club to enter. Essay Contest: submit an essay on the assigned topic. Club submissions due by early February of each year; district finals submissions to Optimist International by specified district deadline. To find your local club, email programs@optimist.org
