The Keyera Energy-Peter J. Renton Memorial Scholarship rewards and encourages Alberta students pursuing full-time post-secondary studies in energy-related fields including business, communications, sciences, engineering, technical programs, and information technology. Two scholarships of $3,000 are awarded annually. It honors Peter J. Renton's 40-year career in the energy sector and his beliefs in environmental protection, social responsibility, and lifelong learning. Funded through the Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund.
Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or protected persons under Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (visa students not eligible). Must be Alberta resident (one parent with 12+ months Canadian residency in Alberta, student living in Alberta 12+ months before studies, or spouse/partner Alberta resident). Must have completed high school graduation requirements in Alberta and be enrolled full-time in publicly funded Alberta post-secondary institution in first or second year of degree/diploma program in energy-related field (business, communications, sciences, engineering, technical programs, IT). Must maintain 3.0 GPA out of 4.0.
Submit completed application form, official post-secondary transcript if in second year (must have official signature/seal, no photocopies/faxes), and essay reflecting on community service, employment, leadership, and academic achievement describing how chosen field relates to energy sector and post-graduation plans. Applications submitted through Alberta Student Aid online or paper application between August 1 and October 31. Previous year's recipients receive preference if maintaining 3.0 GPA with minimum 3 courses per term.
