The Paul Ecke, Jr. Scholarship honors the late Paul Ecke, Jr., whose innovations revolutionized the global poinsettia and floriculture industry. It awards $5,000 per year for two consecutive years ($10,000 total) to a full-time MS or PhD student pursuing floriculture research. Recipients must continue to meet program requirements to receive the second year of funding. The scholarship is administered by the American Floral Endowment.
Open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and qualified international students who are completing a bachelor's or master's degree in horticulture or a related field and intend to pursue an MS or PhD in floriculture full-time at a U.S. land-grant university. Strong academic achievement is required.
Applicants must submit a personal statement (up to two single-spaced pages), three letters of recommendation (one from a floriculture-related advisor), official transcripts, and a short video (up to three minutes) describing their research project. Applications are submitted through the AFE portal.
