About

The JASNA Essay Contest offers cash prizes of $1,000 (first), $500 (second), and $250 (third) in each of three divisions: High School, College/University, and Graduate. Winners also receive free registration and two nights' lodging at JASNA's Annual General Meeting, one year of JASNA membership, publication of their essays on the JASNA website, and a set of Norton Critical Editions of Jane Austen's novels. The contest promotes thoughtful engagement with the life and works of Jane Austen.

Eligibility

Open to students worldwide enrolled in high school, college/university (at least six credit hours), or graduate school (at least three credit hours of graduate coursework). JASNA membership is not required.

Requirements

Submit an original essay on the announced Jane Austen topic through the online submission portal by June 1. Essays are evaluated on literary analysis, clarity, and argument.
