The Driver Education Initiative Award is an annual scholarship offering multiple submission rounds per year. The 2026 'In the Driver's Seat' competition awards $500 to each of 2 winners per round. Round 1 runs May 1-August 1, 2026 with winners announced September 1. Round 2 runs September 1-November 30, 2026 with winners announced January 2, 2027. Six students will be rewarded annually. Must be currently enrolled in High School, University, or College. Open to students from U.S., Canada, and abroad. Employees and relatives of National Driving and Traffic School are ineligible.
Applicants must submit an essay of no less than 750 words in Microsoft Word format addressing a specific prompt related to impaired driving and driver education. Three scholarship cycles are offered each year (January-March, May-August, September-November). Two recipients are selected per cycle.
