Clark Burrus Public Service Academic Scholarship

The Clark Burrus Public Service Academic Scholarship is a $10,000 GFOA award that encourages outstanding minority students to pursue careers in public financial management at the state or local government level. Named in honor of Clark Burrus, a distinguished figure in government finance, it recognizes both academic achievement and dedication to public service. The scholarship is open to both graduate and advanced undergraduate students. The 2027 application cycle opens in November 2026.

Open to graduate or upper-level undergraduate minority students preparing for a career in state or local government finance. Eligible fields of study include public administration, governmental accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration with a focus on government or nonprofit management.

Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to their commitment to the public sector, along with transcripts and an application form. The application window opens each November for the following cycle.
