Polar Knowledge Canada awards $10,000 scholarships to outstanding graduate students in polar studies. Streams include Antarctic Scholarship, Northern Resident Scholarship, and general doctoral polar scholarship. A POLAR Fellowship of $50,000 is also available for post-doctoral researchers.
Canadian citizen or permanent resident enrolled full-time in a doctoral program at a recognized Canadian university; must be engaged in Northern or Arctic research culminating in a thesis, major paper, publication or similar output; must employ interdisciplinary research approach and demonstrate commitment to polar studies; must conduct fieldwork between May and the following March.
Apply through Polar Knowledge Canada Online Application and Reporting portal (nstp-pfsn.smapply.io); must submit application form and two referee assessments; applications reviewed by multi-disciplinary committee; currently accepting applications for future cycles (2026-2027 cycle now closed).
