The Beverly Murphy MLA Scholarship for Underrepresented Students awards up to $2,500 annually to support diversity and inclusion in health sciences librarianship. It is named in honor of Beverly Murphy, a champion for equity in the library profession. The scholarship uses a single application shared with other MLA student scholarships. Recipients also receive a one-year MLA student membership and free registration to the annual MLA conference.
Open to students from underrepresented groups (including Black/African-American, Latinx, Asian, Aboriginal, North American Indian or Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander) who are enrolled in an ALA-accredited library school and pursuing a career in health sciences librarianship. U.S. or Canadian citizenship or permanent residency is required.
Applicants must complete the MLA online application by December 2, including letters of recommendation and a personal statement. Past recipients of MLA scholarships are not eligible. MLA membership is not required to apply. Recipients are notified in March.
Most students miss 2659+ scholarships they actually qualify for — don't be one of them.
