The Archaeology of Portugal Fellowship supports individual scholarly projects on any aspect of Portuguese archaeology, from prehistoric to post-medieval periods. Awards range from $2,000 to $8,000 and are intended to fund fieldwork, archival research, or other scholarly activities. The fellowship is offered annually by the AIA to promote research connections between North American and Portuguese archaeologists. The next deadline is November 1, 2026.
Open to AIA members at the graduate or professional level from the U.S. or countries other than Portugal; Portuguese graduate students may also apply without current AIA membership but must join if selected. Funds must be used to support scholarly research related to Portuguese archaeology.
