StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect their communities and the nation. Each year, $100,000 in total prizes is awarded to the top 150 student documentaries across multiple award categories. The top Grand Prize is $5,000, with additional prizes for first, second, and third place in different grade categories. The contest theme changes annually and connects to current events and American history.
Open to students in grades 6-12 (middle and high school) in the United States who are at least 13 years of age. Students may enter individually or in teams of up to three.
Entrants must produce an original 5-6 minute documentary film related to the annual competition theme. Videos must include C-SPAN footage and cannot include copyrighted material without permission. Submissions are made via the official StudentCam website.
