Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master's Program

The Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master's (CGS-M) Program provides $27,000 non-renewable awards to support full-time master's students conducting research in health, natural sciences, engineering, or social sciences and humanities. The program is jointly administered by Canada's three federal research granting agencies and is one of the most competitive graduate funding opportunities in Canada. Approximately 4,000 awards are distributed annually through participating universities. Application deadlines at individual institutions may be earlier than the national December 1 deadline.

Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Persons enrolled in or intending to enroll in a master's degree program at a Canadian university. Applicants must have achieved a first-class average (A-/3.7 or equivalent) in each of the last two completed years of full-time study. Previous holders of a Tri-Agency master's or doctoral scholarship are not eligible.

Applications are submitted through the NSERC Research Portal and a single form is used for all three agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC). Applicants may designate up to three universities as proposed host institutions. No extensions are granted; late applications are not accepted. Only one postgraduate application per year is permitted.
