The Jim Bourque Scholarship honours the legacy of the late Honourable James W. Bourque, a Cree and Métis leader from Alberta. Administered by the Arctic Institute of North America at the University of Calgary, one $1,000 award is granted annually to a deserving Aboriginal student. The scholarship supports studies in fields relevant to northern and Indigenous communities.
Applicants must be Canadian Indigenous students enrolled in post-secondary training in Education, Environmental Studies, Indigenous Knowledge or Telecommunications. The Scholarship Committee looks for financial need, relevance of study to the scholarship, applicants achievements, return on investment, and overall presentation of the application.
Submit the following items via email to aina.scholarships@ucalgary.ca as individual attachments (not zipped): cover letter with contact email, description of intended program of study in 500 words or less, transcripts (most recent from college/university or high school), signed letter of recommendation from a community leader, statement of financial need, proof of enrollment in or application to a post-secondary institution, and proof of Canadian Indigenous descent.
