The IABA Scholarship Program provides awards ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 to Black undergraduate and graduate students pursuing actuarial careers in the United States and Canada. The program is designed to increase diversity in the actuarial profession by supporting students of African descent at all stages of their actuarial education. Applications open November 1 each year through the Actuarial Foundation's online portal.
Open to students of African descent (from the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, or African nations) who are citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada, or are on a U.S./Canadian student visa. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have passed or be attempting an actuarial exam.
Applicants must be admitted to a U.S. or Canadian college or university offering actuarial science or related coursework. SAT math score of at least 600 (or ACT 28) is required, and Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) requirements must be in progress or completed.
