award_type: entrance. Minimum $5,000 (in $5,000 units); actual amount varies by faculty allocation. Purpose is to recruit superior graduate students with potential to contribute to UAlberta's research community. Not automatically renewable but faculty may re-nominate.

Eligibility

Newly admitted students only; thesis-based master's or doctoral programs; GPA ≥ 2.7 on most recent 15 units; course-based and qualifying program students are NOT eligible; maximum once per degree level (unless transferring master's → doctoral)

Requirements

Faculty nominates student to GPS — no direct student application. Awarded in $5,000 increments; faculties choose number of units based on GPS allocation table.
